This time of year, with pear season in full swing, is the perfect chance to enjoy some delicious baked pears.

The cool weather makes warm, sweet treats feel extra cozy, and this simple recipe lets the natural flavor of the pears shine. All you need are a few simple ingredients to create a dessert that’s both comforting and satisfying.

Homemade baked pears with honey are one of my top go-to recipes for fall. I’m sure you’ll love them just as much as I do!

Why You’ll Love It

Light dessert: These baked pears will satisfy your sweet tooth without any refined sugar or flour! You can feel good eating these while still enjoying a decadent-tasting dessert.

Customizable: There are so many ways to make this baked pear recipe your own! Substitute the nuts, add an oat crumble, or mix up how you serve it. The possibilities are endless.

Fall flavor: Warm spices and pears in their peak season make this the ultimate fall dessert. I look forward to baked pears every year!

Naturally gluten-free: I love recipes that are allergy-friendly without even trying! These baked pears are naturally gluten-free and grain-free.

Ingredients

  • Pears: I recommend Bartlett pears or Anjou pears (d’Anjou pears). Aim for fruit that is ripe but still somewhat firm. Overripe pears will turn to mush in the oven.
  • Maple syrup: Maple is an essential fall flavor! It sweetens the pears while giving a rich, maple-y flavor. Use 100% pure maple syrup, not maple pancake syrup.
  • Spices: Cinnamon and ginger give these pears a nice spiciness and even more fall flavor.
  • Pecans: Nuts add a crunchy texture and delicious nuttiness. Use chopped pecans, toasted or raw. You can also substitute almonds or walnuts.
  • Honey: A drizzle of honey after baking completes this recipe.
  • Heavy whipping cream: Whipped cream adds a nice creamy element to this recipe! You can use chilled coconut cream if you want them to be dairy-free.
  • Vanilla extract: A splash of vanilla extract makes every sweet treat a little better.

Step 4. Bake the pears for 15-25 minutes, until soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from the oven and drizzle with honey.

Pouring heavy cream into a mixer bowl.

Step 5. Next, make the whipped cream. Add whipping cream, maple syrup, cardamom, and cinnamon to a chilled mixing bowl.

Spooning a dollop of whipped cream onto a baked pear.

Step 6. Whip the cream with a stand mixer or hand mixer until stiff peaks form. Add a dollop to each baked pear right before serving.

Helpful Tips

  • The riper your pears are, the faster they will soften in the oven. If you are using pears that are on the softer side, start checking their doneness earlier. Underripe pears may take longer.
  • Baked pears don’t save well, so I recommend making just enough to eat that day. If you do need to save some, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge.
  • Baked pears are delicious with vanilla ice cream! Feel free to skip the whipped cream and enjoy them with a scoop of ice cream instead.
  • If you want your pears to stand up straight without rocking, slice a small piece off of the bottom of the pear to give it a flat surface to sit on.
  • .For an easy breakfast, serve baked pears with a scoop of greek yogurt!

Recipe FAQs

What are the best types of pears for baked pears?

I like Bartlett and d’anjou pears. Bosc pears and comice pears are also great options!

Can I make this recipe dairy-free?

Yes! The baked pears are already dairy-free, so all you have to do is skip the whipped cream. Opt for dairy-free whipped cream or dairy-free ice cream instead, or just enjoy them plain.

Can I make this recipe vegan?

You sure can. Follow the suggestions above to replace the whipped cream. You can use more maple syrup or agave syrup in place of the honey.

How many baked pears should I make per person?

That depends on how much your guests like dessert and what you’re serving it with! If you’re serving the pears with ice cream or you have light eaters, I would do half a pear per person. If your guests love their dessert (I get it!), plan for two halves per person.
